For the Digital SLR Users

201 - Getting to Know Your D-SLR

The Digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex) is the pro-style camera that gives you greater control and much better results than you can get with the standard point-n-shoot consumer camera.

We will go over how the SLR works and what it is that makes it so much better.  We also introduce you to the different controls you will find on the camera and how they are used.

You will have a better understanding of your camera, the controls and what they are used for.

202 - All About Lenses

The lens is the foundation of photography.  One of the biggest advantages of an SLR is the fact that you can change the lens on it.  With over 65 different lenses available from some of the major manufacturers, it is easy to get overwhelmed.  We will go over the 5 major classes of lenses:

Wide Angle
Close-Up
Mid-Range Telephoto
Super Telephoto
Fixed Focal Length

and describe what they are used for and what major features to look for.

We will also give you an understanding of the different types of lenses there are and how they can be used to get different effects in your pictures.

203 - Using Flash and Other Light Controllers

Photography is all about light.  The better you can control the light, the better you can control the picture.  Flash is one way to start taking control of lighting.  Starting with on-camera pop-up flash to add-on flash, we discuss how flash improves your pictures.

We will also discuss methods of off-camera flash as well as light modifiers and other ways to control lighting.

204 - Filters, Light Modifiers and Other Fine Things

We use filters to protect our lenses and to modify the light entering the camera.  We explain what the different filters are and how they affect your pictures.  We'll also go over using reflectors and how to use them to redirect light to where you want it as well as using diffusers to soften your light, reduce glare and remove shadows.

There are many different ways to modify the light to change and improve your photographs.  Filters and other fine things will introduce you to some of them.

We will review different types of accessories you can use to enhance your photography as well as items to make picture-taking more enjoyable.
